Mafia is a game invented by some Russian in the middle of the Cold War, and I'm not even joking, because apparently criminals in the USSR were called the Mafia. Whatever. Americans found it, thought it was cool, and added a sheriff.
So this is how it works-
There's two primary groups of players that will be selected before the game starts- townspeople and mafia. The mafia know eachother but the townspeople are completely in the dark regarding other people's roles. Essentially the informed minority vs. the uninformed majority. There is also one 'sheriff' who can investigate who is or isn't mafia.
There's two phases of the game- Day and Night
The game will start on the first 'Day'. During the day, townspeople (and mafia, pretending to be townspeople) will meet and talk about who to lynch. Now if you don't know what lynching is, it's when you hang someone on a tree and laugh at them as they choke to death. Only one person can be lynched each day, and it's whoever gets more than 50% of the vote. As you can see, it's not a good idea to win the elections.
After the lynched individual is effectively dead, the lynch mob will proceed to tear apart his/her house and thus, discover his/her role.
During the night, the mafia will murder someone. This repeats until the mafia outnumber the townspeople, or every mafioso is lynched.
The Sheriff can, as stated before, investigate people to find their roles.
