Silly Love Songs
The young woman sat on the lonely stump in the middle of the forest clearing, staring blankly at the trees that lined the edges. She was humming softly to herself, running her right hand in the tall grass that circled the stump. It was a simple tune that she longed to forget, but somehow it stayed with her, locked in her memory.
It always caused her to reminisce. It always caused her to relive the pain. It always caused her to realize how alone she truly was. That was why she wanted to forget.
Then perhaps the agony of being left alone, of being left broken and empty, would leave her forever and finally give her some peace. That was wishful thinking however, as no matter how hard she tried, no matter how desperately she fought, those negative feelings hung over her head like a dark cloud.
That is why she found herself at this very spot, humming that tune that used to bring her such joy. A single tear slid down her cheek, although this time she kept her hand at her side, not bothering to wipe it away. There was no point.
“How wonderful life is now you’re in the world…”

Even so, she never faltered, still singing the last line softly, wondering if she sung it loud enough if it would be heard again by the one who sang it first.
