Asylum games
You are a normal person put into an asylum under false pretenses; you must solve the mysteries here
Like the above, except that there ARE a few supernatural elements, only they are among the staff exclusively, who are trying to recreate their abilities, and an asylum is the only place they can do so without suspicion. Also recall that this is an era where asylum inmates were considered less than or not human, and where even the cruelest treatment was often done with the full belief that the patient was benefitting from it
These games should represent the inmates as simply sad and sick, in need of cre they are not receiving, or like you are fairly normal people put in here for a variety of reasons.
Keep in mind, before the asylum reformation, undesirables of all sorts were thrown in the asylums just to keep them out of public sight: alcoholics, addicts, etc

Retribution City was actually built with the intention of being a prison, where inmates were punished for their 'crimes against society'. The stated purpose of any mental institution is the wellness betterment of the patients, regardless of how or why people might turn up there.

I admit, there are a lot of similarities between them, but the same they are not

Added note: in RC, powers are already well-developed, and tests are being done to test effects/limitations, at least from what I understand (not my baby, so I might be wrong). In the asylum game, there are a lot of cruel experiments going on, but the only success cases thus far are still the staff, and only the staff, which kind of pisses them off

the player will likely never get access to these abilities, despite the fact that they are periodically experimented on. Even if they do, it would be very limited, and possibly even item based, rather than energy-based

Quick way to get a player party together in a cyperpunk setting
They, along with everyone else in a certain area, is marshalled into a tallying facility
Here, they get measured, formally named, quantified, qualified, etc.
They are given a number
When the entire group of people has been tallied (somewhere between a hundred and a thousand), they are all put in one giant, warehouse-like room, with a massive screen overhead.
The screen randomly selects numbers into two different groups, one to go to one side of the facility, the other to the opposite. As the PCs travel, they find that there are footprints with their numbers leading them where to go, eventually putting them in rows.
Smaller screens appear and randomly select again, directing the new smaller groups deeper into the facility
The main warehouse is soon left behind, and the players, along with everyone else, find themselves in a sprawling network of catwalks and platforms, sometimes above larger platforms or bedrock, sometimes above holding cells for alien mutants or particularly violent/verbal inmates. Sometimes they find themselves over empty space, over a pit that has no bottom they can see
Finally, the PCs follow their footprints as part of a single row. The only ones on the platform are the party members.
And this is how they meet

Basic campaign idea:
Create a character in the modern world, basic person. No real restrictions, you just need to have a reason to go to a particular club
The campaign can start and go a variety of directions, depending on what you do in the club, where you go and who you talk to, et cetera, et cetera
The main idea that popped into my head was this: A spazzy guy walks up to your character as they are standing on the sidelines of the dance floor and ask if they want to buy drugs. This character is appropriately appalled by this, and goes off to call the police. Suddenly, the man is escorted out a side door, and the character is approached by security, who asks her to come with them.
They take her into the back rooms, to where the manager is staking out. The man thanks the character; apparently the spazz was moving in on the manager’s territory, and the character flushed him out for him. The manager wants to compensate the character for her troubles, and offers some drugs for free. The character is horrified, and tries to say no. The manager just smiles and says, ‘oh, I think you will be sampling our wares’, and the character is held down and forcibly injected with a cocktail of illegal drugs.
Unfortunately for both the crooked club manager and the character, the drugs had been cut with some foreign substances that some…interesting changes to the character’s biology. Not quite Lucy, not quite Alphas, but unusual effects nonetheless

Super power campaign set in a futuristic subjugation setting- kind of like Half-Life 2, except with more giant robots

pcs are kids/young adults who are tired of getting bullied around. some have developed mutation powers, others go to experimenters or try it themselves to get the power to fight back against an oppressive system that has taken everything from them


At the end of the game, as they break into the office of the Big Bad, it turns out that the man is a fanboy of a bygone era. As a boy he watched as superheros became outdated, and were imprisoned, killed, and exiled by a society that no longer needed them. After seeing this, he made it his goal in life to recreate a time in which people needed protecting, and a place in which super heroes were once again necessary. And as you defeat him, his dream has come to full fruition.

For a video game, make it so that you, as the player, are a spider person

A) because Arachne are fucking cool
and B) because it allows you to use lots of creative architecture, because as a spider person with spider abilities, you can get to places that most people couldn't, even with the use of high tech equipment

for apocalypse now, spider queen. kind of like in the iron canopy from darksiders, except a little less/more monstrous
at the end of the world, as all is burning around her, she is not concerned. there is nothing she can do, but she and her kind have always thrived in the shadows
she is also a collector and trader of information. if you can entertain her with a story, she will give you one back, and whether you notice it at first or not, it will have information you need
finally, in a given party there should be at least one person whose voice she will love. she will attempt to make a bargain- for that person's voice, she will give anything that is within her power to give
oh yeah, for as long as you can find her, anything within her labyrinth of webs is technically for sale- you just have to give her something of equal or greater value. merchant, more or less, but she doesn't give credit

I think this has been done already, BUT
have the main character get kidnapped because Plot
OR
is working for the government because Plot
and is inserted into a prototype/high-tech/alien suit of awesome
this is done because for whatever reason the scientists/government haven't been able to get the suit working until this point
the character is used either because convenient, or genetically compatible, or simply highly intelligent/advanced enough that they can actually integrate properly with the suit


Also:
why are all army guys portrayed in movies and video games super-macho, misongynistic bullshit assholes?
