*Almost Watched Anime List Empty
PostSubject: *Almost Watched Anime List   *Almost Watched Anime List EmptySun 28 Sep 2014 - 1:55

Herein shall be contained a list of anime I began watching but then stopped for some inexplicable reason. While my Watched Anime List serves a more practical purpose of keeping track of anime I've seen, this list will be far more impractical, and some may say may be created solely for entertainment purposes. The "reviews", if you can call them such, contained within shall provide little to no valuable insight and will instead consist almost solely of rants and bullshittery provided by yours truly. And unlike the other list, this list will not be censored.

It will contain spoilers.

...although, given that most anime I will include in here will be dropped within the first episode or two, one could hardly call them spoilers. But I digress.

This list will by no means contain all anime I *Almost watched, but more likely just anime I want to rant about, or anime I recall *Almost watching.

Nonetheless, here it is, whatever it is:

1. Another
Ok, so like. I just finished watching Shinsekai Yori, and I damn well liked Shinsekai Yori. I wanted to pick something up that was also horror related, dark, etc. That sort of thing. I was a little iffy about Another to begin with, but I decided to watch it because it looked well made and well received, plus was supposedly dark and horror and bla bla bla. Bitch can't replace Shinsekai Yori. But anyway. So, I already know the general premise of the anime; Highschool dude goes to a new highschool and can see this dead chick who wears an eye patch (like one of those temporary medical ones). And so apparently there's this conspiracy shit going on too I guess, where everyone is all shifty eyed and bullshit like they know something the main character doesn't. It was kind of weird and... somehow not fitting. So I get to the part (this is only in the first episode by the way) where the main character actually meets the ghost girl. It's supposed to be a horror anime, I get that. But when you introduce the main horror aspect as a teenage highschool girl who has no hostile action or intent whatsoever, and is honestly kind of cute, it sort of breaks everything. Like, ok, not super moe or kawaii or whatever shit, but attractive enough that one can nod their head in acknowledgement. Meanwhile, she's holding a busted doll by its arm, and they're standing in this old hospital corridor, everything is dark and there's this creepy fucking music playing in the background, tense as fuck situation as a whole, and you have the focus of the horror be a cute highschool girl who minds her own business. Wat. I couldn't take it seriously. She was too cute for the situation to be scary, or creepy, or whatever. It broke 100% of the tension.
"Ok, so there's a monster in the room and there's no way out. You are defenseless, and there is nobody who can hear you scream."
"Oh fuck!"
"But the monster is a cat, and it's just rubbing against your leg."
"W-....ok? Is it going to like, suck my soul out or something?"
"No. It's just a cat. It's a monster, but it's a cat."
"I don't get it."
"Well join the fucking club."
The anime built itself up way too much to actually get into it as a horror anime. There was about 400% tense atmosphere versus 0% actual threat. It just. Didn't. Work. Idk, there may be more to it along the line and I just haven't gotten to it, but idk if I would even want to. I may watch more or even finish it, but as of this exact moment, it didn't win me over. Not to imply that it was bad. No, it wasn't bad. Just not my cup of tea. I don't get creeped out or freaked out by horror anyway, but this tanked pretty bad in that department.

General rating of 5.5-6ish/10
Episodes watched: 1

Ghost Chick Mei Misaki:

2. Zankyou no Terror
Similarly to Another (and like every other anime to be on this list, idk why I'm even typing this) I may actually finish this anime at some point. But until then, fuck it. I saw like 6 or so episodes of this series, and I think it's like 12 long or something. Case in point, I saw about half of it. Zankyou no Terror looked like a good pick from a distance, and got plenty enough fanfare to make it worth a glance. However, under the guise of high budget and a large-ish fandom, lies an anime that is only debatably worth one's time. Like, ok, so I started watching it, and it seemed decent enough. It's about a pair of teenagers (or young adults perhaps) who are, well, terrorists. They have a troubled past as test subjects or some shit, and one of them is like really smart and semi-reclusive and has a huge chip on his shoulder, whereas the other one is mildly silly and apparently has synesthesia. Whatever. In general, the anime is ok. Generally. The opening and ending are both quite good, however. I honestly don't know the overarching plot of the anime, as it wasn't explained in the duration of which I watched. They were blowing shit up for idk what reason. They end up finding a chick who bears witness to one of their acts of terrorism, and the more silly of the two grows a liking to her and wants her to join them, much to the other's opposition. Series moves on with him roping her into joining them, also to the other's opposition. Bla bla bla shit happens and suddenly there's this other chick who was also from the same facility that did tests on them as children and she has a chip on her shoulder against them, bla bla bla, she's an unlikable bitch etc. My main beef with this anime is that it runs more like a very long and drawn out movie than a series. It honestly should have been a movie. Idk, it was just questionable whether or not it was good enough to keep watching. The main issue was the fact that it was new at the time, so I was waiting for the episodes to come out week by week. Eventually I just decided it wasn't worth the effort of waiting for. You read that correctly. The effort of waiting. Did I fucking stutter? Whatever the case may be, I dropped it like it was hot because it just didn't have "it".

6/10
