New York Overture - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: New York Overture   New York Overture - Page 2 EmptySat 26 Dec 2015 - 12:01

During their walk Jeanne would clearly see the Honour Guard take a pleasant stroll outside before stopping by the grate she met Leena at and kneeling down. It was clear that he noticed something before looking down at the ground following your guys path. It was only then that you noticed a rather inconvenient side effect of traveling with Leena, and that is that she leaves the areas she travels over quite clear of debris. The man would kneel back up to what Jeanne could see as a low squat as a device rose from both shoulders. It was hard to say exactly what from this distance, but it didn't take a genius to notice the rifle extend from the Guard's right arm. He was on the move following the path, and quickly. Contrary to what you'd think, you'd figure you'd have heard the sound of a 8ft tall Honour Guard jogging your way, but instead it was dead silent. At this rate though it was clear that he was going to catch up with you both soon since he has no need to hide.

The very second Jeanne saw the silhoutte of the honor guard moving in a very linear fashion towards their location, Jeanne felt what would've looked like dull surprise. Her emotional response seemed a bit dampened, for only her eyebrows twitched, and Jeanne opened her eyes.

"And I see the Honor Guard running towards us like he knows where we are," Jeanne said.

"Well, he does know where we are."

Jeanne's reaction to knowing the Honor Guard was coming was very subdued, for whatever reason
As if to make up for it, Leena's was...not

Her attention went everywhere, all at once, looking this way and that for anything that could give an indication of how the Honor Guard knew where they were. Cameras, drones, any-

her panic slowed to a dead halt when she 'looked' behind them. Even in the dim light, she could see the trail of her passage- dirt and detritus were just...gone. Her attention shifted down for a second, and kind of wished she hadn't. The lower part of her body, where she had been in contact with the ground, was filled with suspended particles of...stuff.
She felt conspicuously dirty

Even worse, she knew the Honor Guard coming after them...catching them, was going to be her fault. If Jeanne just split up with her...
wait
that was it
Leena might get caught, or she might escape, but if Jeanne could keep a low profile, her escape was almost guaranteed, at least for now.
Leena didn't want to leave the girl, she didn't. The last thing she wanted was to abandon her in the middle of all of this, but if she wanted at least one of them to survive the next few minutes, she was going to have to

Leena's tendril released it's hold on Jeanne's hand... only to take it again a moment later. She plopped her metal wallet into the girls hand and wrapped the gauntlet closed around it. She leaned in close- she didn't have much time.

"Phoenix Fitness Center on 45th, Locker 81-C. Combination 13-18-27. Hide the gauntlet and get to Grand Central, East balcony. If I'm not there in 2 hours, leave without me."

With one last look at Jeanne, Leena took off down the alley to her right, soon emerging onto 6th Avenue. While concerned, going out in the open like this would keep attention from Jeanne, if only for a moment. She looked around hurriedly, before her eyes settled on something. Deciding to take a lesson from her previous mistake, she quickly and purposefully slid down into the darkness of a nearby storm drain

"Wha--" Jeanne grasped the wallet in her hand the same way her mind grasped Leena's words, and, just like that, Leena was gone.

The hairs on Jeanne's neck rose as she made the connection that she was once again alone and trapped in the open. She really wanted to just drop her shoulders, turn around with arms open and meet her maker, as it was due to aberrations like her, but a certain instinctual feeling kept her going in the direction away from the Honor Guard. Away from justice.

What she knew was that he was heading towards her immediate location, but what she also knew is that--aside from the rookies' description of her--the Honor Guard perhaps had no indication towards what she looked like at all if they were ever to encounter. The best indicator of affiliation is to simply do as the Romans do in Rome, and so, while she couldn't hide her uniform, she could certainly own it for the time being. She sneered at the concept, but she'd done it once before.

She straightened her posture and began walking in the direction opposite of where Leena went, in the hopes of perhaps catching the man off their trail. Her temporary omniscience allowed her, to a certain extent, predict where he was going, and where she should be going to avoid him, and she did exactly that.

It took some time before the Honour Guard finally met up with the crossroads that Leena and Jeanne split at and, from what Jeanne could make out, looked confused for a moment as he looked not only where Leena went, but also where Jeanne went. The Guard looked down at its forearm momentarily before a small semicircle seemed to pop from its left shoulder blade. The Sphere could have been no larger than a grapefruit. The Guard pulled it from its back and, with a gentle toss towards the direction Leena went, opened up into a strange quadrupedal device. The device started to move at a joggers pace down the cleaned path before the Honour Guard started to walk down the path leading to Jeanne. What Jeanne could assume were weapons started to fold back into the suit.

Once again, Leena was compressed into a tight space, though this was good and bad. On the one hand, she kind of expected it, so it was a lot less disorienting, and she could better attune herself directionally. On the other hand, the storm drain she had landed herself in was far less...clean than the one next to the cathedral.

Leena squelched in revulsion, but managed to move after several moments.

She followed the pipe back, undulating along, relying mostly on touch, since there wasn't really enough light to see by. finally, she made her way to the main sewer pipe...by dropping into it.

Gross gross gross gross gross gross gross gross gross gross gross
Leena exploded onto the maintenance walkway and tried scrubbing herself to get the sludge out of herself, which since her 'hands' simply absorbed back into herself, it really didn't accomplish much.
Rather suddenly, her motions stopped- her liquid form was completely still.
She was completely full of sewage, every sense she had was screaming about how disgusting the sensation was
except taste
she had absolutely no inkling of piquancy, no tone
all there was... was blandness. dullness.

Leena, as a slime, had no sense of taste
never again would she know the sophistication of a glass of wine, savor a steak, or experience the comparison/contrast of chocolate and vanilla.

Unbeknownst to her, the robot was closing in, but for now Leena could only slump into a puddle and ponder her newest loss

New York Overture - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: New York Overture   New York Overture - Page 2 EmptySat 26 Dec 2015 - 17:02

Jeanne really wanted to keep the man at an appropriate distance; a distance where she could spy his every move and yet would still remain in relative safety. The slowing of his pace and the folding of his weapons gave her a certain sense of curiosity, but also of security; she wondered what would happen if she were to simply spring into full view. Would he attack her, or say hello to her?

It was at that point that she remembered the words of the lab technician who had given her the gauntlet.

Ingrained in its firmware is a global positioning system with timestamps. The data is both locally located in the apparatus and is also automatically sent to the headquarters.

Jeanne stopped in place in a moment of revelation. She quickly lifted her right wrist to her face, examining the incriminating piece of equipment.

sent to headquarters.

Jeanne broke into a cold sweat and swallowed hard, but she had to think clearly. Maybe the Honor Guard was not in direct contact with those who knew her position. Maybe those who knew her position didn't even know about the events that had transpired in the last hour or so. Maybe she was still Bonnie James, and nothing was wrong. She knew she had no option at this point; the glove legitimized her position within the ranks, and if she turned off the GPS, she would essentially out herself as an impostor. Something to be investigated.

Jeanne continued walking as if nothing was wrong, although her arm was itching to be freed of its tag, of its chain to honor.

As she walked in the general direction of the gym, first by orientating herself by looking at the street signs that she could not see with her bare eyes--a very useful ability, that she almost had a natural aptitude towards using--and then by following the plan of the streets and alleys like they were a little maze, she eventually almost got on the 45th avenue, which, as she might've suspected, was merely underpopulated and not completely deserted. Her new vision gave her a glimpse into a Broadway theatre, just off the intersection of the two streets, and she frowned disapprovingly at all the behind-the-scenes action she was being barraged with, regardless of her willingness to participate. She couldn't exactly turn her power off, so her coping mechanism was disapproval. A need to police the behavior she examined.

"Degeneracy," she mumbled under her breath.

Once she integrated herself within a small crowd going in the general direction of an establishment that looked like the gym that Leena had spoken to her about, she pressed the power off button on her gauntlet, and breathed deeply.

Leena

While Leena slumped in her puddle form she could hear what sounded like tiny pistons opening and closing rapidly before around the corner she saw... I tiny robot. This grapefruit sized robot only appeared to have 4 legs that extended out its sides and a spherical shape, and stopped dead in its tracks about 15ft from Leena. The top of the strange machine seemed to open as a series of clicks could be heard from what Leena could only assume to be a camera.

A transmitted masculine voice could then be heard from the small robot,"Wow, you really are something huh? Look I don't really care for hunting things like you so if you could just kill yourself or just eat a couple of energy rounds from the machine that'd be awesome." The robot would then open up and extend a small energized barrel, probably no larger than a .22 pistol in size.

Jeanne

As soon as she arrived at the Gym she was going to be escorted away given the time, but after a quick look at her attire the employee apologizes and opens the door. Fear was quickly setting in with the employee as her eyes darted around. Of the employees that arrived early it was just her, the janitor, and their manager who was upstairs. It was clear that she didn't feel safer with you here, but wasn't about to tell you what not to do.

As for the Honour Guard, while walking, he wasn't too far and it would probably take him about 2-3 minutes at his pace to get to the Gym. The more you focused on him the more you could realize... This Honour Guard was walking as if he didn't have a care in the world.

Leena barely noticed the robot approaching until the voice rang off the concrete, and even then, she didn't have much response except to look at it apathetically. although...

"Sure thing, one sec"

Leena drew herself up to the edge of the flow and proceeded to gather herself as tall as she could, stretching upwards and upwards, before finally letting gravity topple her over, willing herself to simply sink to the bottom and not come back up. she didn't know if the water would dissolve her or not, and in that moment she really didn't care too much

Jeanne's armpits were soaked in cold uncomfortable misery as she mentally analyzed the Honor Guard's brisk pace. He was off the corner of the intersection she had been at a few minutes before, and he had turned towards the fitness center.

He knew where she was, or at least, had been, right before she came in.

She made an audible sound as she sucked in some air. It was not the time to show anxiety. She entered the gym, made the janitor close the door behind her, and looked at the woman with eyes filled with businesslike contempt. She was a good 5 inches taller, and she used that to her advantage.

"Take me to the lockers. I have things to inspect." She was on borrowed time. She had to just take Leena's gym bag, if any, and run. If she was too slow, she might not take him off her tail, or, worse, she might be trapped.

She motioned with her chin.

"And don't waste my time."

Leena

The little robot walked towards the edge of the water as a very muddled,"Huh, what a bitch." Was heard. Firing with only a second between shots the little robots' super heated beams were only about the width of a pencil but were very obviously hot enough to evaporate the murky water instantly. Thankfully its accuracy seemed to be lacking, but would definitely hit Leena if she didn't do something quick.

--------------------------

Jeanne

"Y-Yes m'am right away. Please, this way." The woman starts to lead the way to the lockers almost as soon as the manager walks down the stairs. The woman that appeared was clearly in shape, sported a clean blouse and sweat pants, and looked like she had just got out of the shower. There must be a studio upstairs. Even though she was in shape her face had a very soft look to it and was working a comb through medium length black hair.

The manager hit the bottom of the stairs before following after you two, saying,"Hey, who told you that you could let som-" As soon as Jeanne looked she could see the manager frozen in place, staring at her. Beat. The manager continued,"Tia, why not let me escort them to the lockers instead, you need to finish at the front don't you?"

"Oh, yeah... If you'll just follow my manager Emily she'll show you the way." The clerk made her way back to the front desk quickly.

The manager put on her best smile and walked towards the lockers,"Please, right this way. I hope you find what you're looking for."

As for the Honour Guard, he stopped at the front of the gym, seemingly taking inventory and checking his forearm once more.

Jeanne had to move fast. Her time was limited.

She "looked" at Emily, but had to remind herself that unless she was making eye contact it was difficult to convince somebody you were paying attention to them, so she turned around briskly. "Okay, that's all. I'll call you back when I need you."

The important numbers were etched into her memory like a scarification tattoo. She turned her back to civilization and walked fast directly to 81-C, and fumbled with the code twice before she finally opened it. Sweat was gathering on her forehead and she was terrified. She felt her heartbeat in her throat. She felt watched. Trapped.

She felt the guard's presence at the fitness center's doors, and breathed deeply.

The gym bag slid out of the locker smoothly. She sighed, putting Leena's metallic wallet into the bag. She took her uniform by the lapels and straightened it, smoothed it. It was no use changing into gym clothes at this point in time; she'd have to do it outside of the fitness center. Her feet shuffled again as she took off, out of the locker room.

Mentally she searched for exits, maybe just a back door or an emergency fire exit concealed behind a pile of abandoned gym equipment. Anything so that she could avoid meeting face-to-face with the Honor Guard.

New York Overture - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: New York Overture   New York Overture - Page 2 EmptySat 26 Dec 2015 - 21:26

Leena was originally planning to let the water dissipate her, but as the robot began to fire into the water and a couple of stray energy bolts stitched the edge of her mass, she discovered one very particular sensation of living things that she still possessed- Pain

The sheer inaccuracy of the thing meant that she didn’t get hit much, but she still took hit after hit, and each one drove the feelings of isolation and self-pity further and further away.

So she was no longer the person she used to be, so she didn’t have some of the things that made her feel alive and happy, but so what? She was still alive, and she was still hurting, and she deserved more than to simply be put down like a dog.

Seething with rage, Leena focused on the source of her pain. She swam against the current for a moment before surging up over the lip of the walkway like a bog beast, swinging full-force at the little robot with what was no longer a tendril but a fully-fledged tentacle.
Funny thing about water: it doesn’t compress very much, and trying to do so at all requires and intense amount of pressure. Needless to say, the robot didn't stand much chance.

The little, metal ball flew a good 10 to 15 feet, clipped the wall across the walkway, bounced off the other walkway and went straight in the water.
Leena clambered back onto her walkway and crouched low, waiting, daring the little robot to come back up

Leena

It would take it a moment, but the little robot would have climbed out of the water, its laser having been retracted to avoid water logging. The camera would pop out once more as a few more clicks were heard before retracting,"Well played, I'd love to see you try that trick again." With that Leena could see as the robots stumpy legs penetrated the concrete one at a time with the laser making another presence,"How many more hits you think you can take monster?" The barrage continues.

-------------

Jeanne

As Jeanne looked for an exit she would actually see that there was a fire exit far in te back with lockers set right next to it. Before she could even take a step she saw what looked like a ghostly, human blur sprint into view and forcibly shove the lockers to the side partway in front of the doors. For a moment you could have sworn it was-

"What, think you can get out after the crime you're thinking of committing Guard?" Emily asked as you could see the ghostly figure sprint back into her,"You think I'm going to let you kill me OR one of my friends? Think again you bastard!" Emily would lunge forward fist first, clearly aiming to hit you in the head as soon as possible.

In addition, it looked like whatever te Guard was doing completed at the door as without a moments hesitation he shoved the door open, breaking it entirely. The clerk only just returned to look visibly terrified. The Guard rose his left hand and fired something. Whatever it was, the woman dropped immediately. With that done, he started to slowly walk down the hallway towards the lockers.

Jeanne dropped the bag and shielded her face with her hands.

"Stop!" she screamed. Jeanne was outgunned, outmanned and outmaneuvered. She simply had no rational way of reacting in the situation. In a blasted, hail-mary attempt, her identity simply wasn't worth concealing. Her lungs felt like they were exploding and her heart ripping out of her chest at the current situation, and yet she couldn't stop thinking about the bigger threat downstairs.

"I'm one of you, I'm one of you!"

After saying that, she realized very quickly that her statement could perhaps be misconstrued. She grimaced and spoke the dirty words as tears of rage and fear and disgust formed into her eyes. "I'm an Alpha."

PostSubject: Re: New York Overture   New York Overture - Page 2 EmptySat 26 Dec 2015 - 22:54

As the robot dug-in to the concrete, Leena realized something: if this thing was here, where was its master

...Jeanne!

As the robot resumed fire, Leena growled in exasperation: "I Don't have Time for this!" With that, she jumped straight into the water. However, she didn't do what the Honor Guard expected, and instead of rising back up and trying to bap it again, she just smashed her tentacle into the murky water, sending a spray of liquid straight at the thing's gun
if you don't want water getting in there, then in the spirit of science i think i should get that gun wet and see what happens
Still, Leena meant what she said: she wasn't going to stick around to see what the machine did; she dove straight down to the bottom. If the water couldn't disperse her, and she apparently didn't need to breathe, then swimming out of sight was a convenient way to travel.

She had never been in the sewer, but she knew roughly how a sewer was supposed to be laid out beneath a street, so she swam along the pipe as quickly as she could, trying to reach the fitness center through the waterway.
When she thought she had gone far enough, she started looking feeling around until her tendrils came across a pipe, and up she went. the pipes get smaller and smaller, but she still didn't feel claustrophobic. It was a good thing she was doing this so early in the morning, else she might have faced some resistance from water going the other direction.
Finally, she popped up out of a drain- it seemed she was in a sink

Hmm. she wrapped a tendril around the faucet handle an... nooo, this is not the time for that
under the door she slid, and into the next room.
Damn. she hadn't gone far enough. She was still half a block from the fitness center. The doors were locked for now, but they weren't waterproof, so out she slid. Trying to keep out of sight would take too much time, so she slid into the storm drain (she should be able to pass off as dirty water for long enough to get past pedestrians, right?), and slipped into the alley to try the side entrance...

Leena

The robot would short just long enough for Leena to get away as she did without further consequence. As for what she saw when she got into the alley it appeared to be a Fire Exit door. Behind it Leena would be able to hear the sounds of a struggle followed by hearing "-you Bitch!"

----------

Jeanne

Emily would stop almost immediately and turn her head to the side,"What? You're an Alpha? Then, why do you have-" The door leading to the locker room would casually open as the Honour Guard looked in.

"Is now a bad time?" Reverberated through the room,"Aah Jeanne, you found an Alpha. Excellent work. To finish your initiation you're required to kill this Monster." The Honour Guard chuckled lightly before leaning against the door.

Emily visibly started to panic as she looked between the two Honour Guards,"Wh- What?! Monster? Initiation? You were trying to trick me you bitch!" Emily swung again but this time it was very clearly full of rage and hatred. A look of pained whiplash swept across her face as she swung.

Jeanne shot a look of pain towards the Honor Guard who she now recognized as the individual who had guided her initiation and sent her on the mission. She sighed deeply, turning back towards Emily, tears still in her eyes, heart still pounding in her ears.

She let her hands drop by her side and loosened her posture. "Hit me," she mumbled.

"Punish me, for I have sinned."

Unbeknownst to Jeanne, but very visible to the Honor Guard, the air became heavily charged. Little sparks of light danced along the Guard's armor, along the metal surfaces of the lockers. Jeanne's Photokinetic powers manifested themselves in such a way that she could feel the tingling sensation of energy on her skin, which she mistook for pain.

The Honour Guard looked around and chuckled again,"I knew it. I knew you wouldn't have just run away without reason. You're a Monster, just like her. See, originally I thought you were chasing that slime creature, but then you ran? Now don't you worry, I killed her already. Now, I don't give a damn about sins, the Honour Guard, hell I don't even give a shit whether you're an Alpha or not."

The Guard rose his arms as two, 3ft long blades comprised of energy manifested from his forearms,"I just love killing people."

Emily just stood there in horror, the confusion proving to be too much alongside the very visible threat that Jeanne and the Honour Guard appear to exhibit. Leena would of course hear all of this behind the door.

Jeanne opened her eyes and stared straight at the Guard.

Her heartbeat slowed. Kill?

"Fuck you," she told him.

A bolt of pure light matter smashed at lighting speed through the blades and short-circuited the entire mechanism. She heard the light pop and her nostrils filled with the smell of fire as the toxic smoke invaded her lungs, but she was so energized she didn't even have the reflex to cough.

She turned towards him and raised her hand. Another bolt, with more concentrated, but comparatively weaker energy, formed in the bottom of her extended left palm.

Jeanne

The Guard looked at its arms before giving the fingers a few flexes,"Huh, touche." His underarms opened up to reveal what looked like two semi-automatic rifles,"Suppose I'll need to get those fixed later. You can die now." The Honour Guard rose his right arm and pointed it at Jeanne, and before firing was impacted from the right by that ghostly figure again, sending a spray of bullets into the ceiling above.

Emily, while breathing heavily and slowly backing up, kept her eyes on the Guard before the figure disappeared. One after another the ghostly figure appeared from Emily just to sprint up, impact the guns, and shove them aside and away. This kept them trained away from the two in the room and made it very difficult for him to move forward. It was very clear however that this use of energy was already taking its toll on Emily. She wouldn't be able to hold him for long.

Leena heard the bulk of the conversation through the door, but it wasn’t until she heard two lines that she made her move
One: “I just love killing people”
And two: “Fuck you”
The frustration of the moment was overridden by the betrayal of trust in the first and the sheer hollowness of the other, and that was enough.
Under and around the door she surged, only to pause at the display of light matter by Jeanne. She was dazed for a few moments (not having retinas kind of sucked, now that she thought about it), but as the center’s manager (Emma? Emily? Pretty sure it’s Emily…) started to throw herself in harm’s way, she got back in motion. She slid between their legs and pulled up into a…roughly humanoid shape. She didn’t bother with legs, but she had what could pass for a head and two eerily long arms, the latter of which she threw over the ends of Guard’s guns. At best, she would clog them, at worst, well, she had already lost some goo back in the sewer, so this shouldn’t be any different, right?

As she struggled to use her sheer mass to hold him back, she turned her ‘head’ to the two girls behind them
“Go! Go!!”

A nonplussed Jeanne took one glance at Leena's more refined form and didn't do much else from that. The bolt kept charging. In all honesty, she didn't really care if any of them lived or died. It was simply a matter of principle keeping her attacking the Honor Guard, as a part of her delicate moral fiber had definitely been twisted by his blatant expression of sadism. It was reprehensible.

"No," she shouted. So in response to Leena, she planted her feet even more stably in the ground. "This man has to die, Leena!"

And yet another bolt of light energy discharged from her hands, this time in direction of the guard's face. She didn't particularly care if the waves of the blow would ripple through him and hurt Leena, or if she would just miss and hit her entirely. Her emotional state, a dangerous mix of rage and righteousness, did not account for silly things like empathy.

The bolt of charged light matter flashed brilliantly through the empty space between hand and helmet, the darkness looming through the room as the excited particles connected with the Honour Guards helmet. The charged particles danced across the surface of his armor before dissipating, revealing the disappointing lack of noticeable damage.

"Good job, I think my eyes dialated a little bit." With that he kicked forward with his right leg directly through Leena, a piston extending his leg to meet Emilys' chest. The impact was enough to send her flying back against the lockets blocking the fire exit, setting off the fire alarm.

He then swept his hands aside, scooping Leena away as if her attempts to hold him back or stop him were meaningless.

"Do you want to know the problem with Alphas these days? Most of them are too weak to put up a decent fight, and those who try to be a hero die running at me like a sheep to the slaughter. You're not going to kill me, you're no hero, you're just like every other human on the planet. Difference is that you think just because radiation gave you super powers that you can make a difference in this world. Well, you can't. You'll just be forgotten like all the others." The Honour Guard squat down a little as what looked like a large rifle of sorts extended from his right shoulder blade before wrapping over the top and into his right arm,"This is where your story ends. How would you like to be remembered?"

Jeanne's voice lowered to the deepest, darkest parts of her chest.

"I shall be your villain."

She then fled behind a wall of lockers, jumping over a set that had been knocked down, ruining the tense atmosphere somewhat. With teeth grit, she switched on her gauntlet again, because regardless of how usable or unusable it was, it didn't hurt to try. She took a mental note of the physical condition of her friends. They were weakened.

Jeanne's bolts had almost no energy drain on her; she had blasted her way through her first bolts as if nothing was wrong, but when she'd attempted to fire off her third, she simply found that she just couldn't begin charging. This cooldown period was interesting to her, but it had to be something she'd concentrate on later. She breathed, the powers out of the question, and concentrated instead on the man's position. She couldn't blast through the resistant armor, either, but she could mess with his equipment. That much she understood.

Her head perked up as she felt she needed clarification on the subject regarding the use of his weapons. She breathed deeply, moving through the maze of lockers like a game of cat and mouse, and then yelled, "What are you waiting for? Shoot!"
