魔界 Demon World: Ancient Japan: Monster Database Volume: 1 Japanese_Scroll_Wallpaper_by_yami_kitsune
Volume 1: The Path to Nihon.
This ancient scroll will keep track of the monsters you will encounter on your journey to Nihon. This scroll is enchanted by a tear of Izanami, a Japanese deity.

======Demons悪魔Demons======
The Passage to Naniwa///Naniwa
船幽霊-Funayūrei "Marine Spirit" Water Demon
They are the ghosts of people who have died at sea. They approach people on boats and ask to borrow a Hishaku, a utensil for scooping up water. If they are given a ladle, they will pour sea water into the boat until it sinks.

鬼-Oni "Ogre" Earth Demon
Depictions of oni vary widely but usually portray them as hideous, gigantic creatures with sharp claws, wild hair, and two long horns growing from their heads. They are humanoid for the most part, but occasionally, they are shown with unnatural features such as odd numbers of eyes or extra fingers and toes.Their skin may be any number of colors, but red and blue are particularly common. They are often depicted wearing tiger-skin loincloths and carrying iron clubs, called kanabō (金棒?). This image leads to the expression "oni with an iron club", that is, to be invincible or undefeatable. It can also be used in the sense of "strong beyond strong", or having one's natural quality enhanced or supplemented by the use of some tool.

炎の精神-"Flame Spirit" Earth Demon
Unlike other spirits, Flame Spirits are not much like fighters, but more of supporters. They can be absorbed by other demons to gain more power. One common example is of a merging with a Tanuki. These spirits are commonly found on top of trees.

雨降り小僧- "Rain Boy" Earth Demon
A boy, depressed and sad. Enduring many ordeals for causing mischief with a rain cloud above him, he sits on a puddle of his sins and mischief. Hoping there would be someone to kill him once and for all. The power of the Rain Boy, is enough to destroy an entire castle. But it's power can be easily disrupted by a cut of a blade.

提灯お化け-"Haunted Lantern" Earth Demon
Those spirits that are willing, would even possess a paper lantern decoration. These blue painted lanterns charge in, and try to kill you with weak melee attacks. But because they are made out of paper, these demons are very easily destroyable.

餓鬼-"Hungry Ghost" Earth Demon
Buddhist monks who have became corrupt or disrupted the Path of Nirvana were transformed into ghost spirits, punished with a infinite addiction to human flesh. They must feast and consume the flesh of humans to stay away from Hell, and reach Nirvana.

青行灯-"Green Lantern" Earth Demon
The lucky spirits still needing a body, would try to possess a paper lantern and merge with another spirit. The blue paint turns to green, these lanterns rely on ranged attacks. Spitting out Green flames from a distance, and the eternal flame of the paper Green lantern would surely burn all those foolish enough to come close.

呪いバンディット- "Curse Bandit" Earth Demon
Before the Nihon Incident, Bandits were to lurk in the forests, the outskirts of villages, and even in underground hideouts. These poor foolish men did not vanish like the villagers, but were cursed. Rotting like dead corpses, they have no point to exist. But to help the demons invade Nihon, and eventually the world.

神農民- "Kami Peasant" Earth Demon
Before the Nihon Incident, Peasants and Villagers were to work and farm for the Emperor. Helping the Emperor gain funds, with nothing back. These people were of the lowest rank of Nihon. Though, who knew the most poor were such skilled warriors. As the demons rose to power in the empty lands of Nihon, these poor peasants vanished into nonexistence. Only to come back as spirits and destroy any humans that set foot on the village.

神の商人- "Kami Merchant" Earth Demon
Before the Nihon Incident, Merchants were in a higher category then the peasants. Much higher, the merchants succeeded in protecting their houses, and paying funds for the Emperor. However, as the demons came to the land of Nihon, the merchants had no way to protect themselves as they were bathing in their greed. The merchants vanished into nonexistence. Only to come back as spirits and destroy any humans that set foot on the village, and to their riches.

魔女-"Kirin" "Ogress" "Witch" Flying Demon
Considered to be female Oni, these demons have conjured witchcraft and made themselves able to fly with no additional support. These flying Oni warriors became dominant to the ground Oni warriors. Terrorizing villagers and farmers in the skies have made farming and selling merchant items difficult. As the Kirin brought fear from the skies.

釣瓶おとし-Tsurube-otoshi "Falling Quickly" Earth Demon
Tsurube-otoshi (釣瓶おとし) is a creature from Japanese folklore. It lurks in the tops of trees and drops down on unsuspecting humans, and has various descriptions - sometimes it is some sort of oni or tengu, sometimes it is a disembodied head, and sometimes it is a fireball. Its name is an expression for "falling quickly" which literally means "a well-bucket dropping", and sometimes the tsurube-otoshi instead drops a well-bucket to scoop up its prey.

狸-"Tanuki" Earth Demon
The legendary tanuki is reputed to be mischievous and jolly, a master of disguise and shapeshifting, but somewhat gullible and absent-minded. There are many forms of the Tanuki, including shapeshifting into a more powerful fiery creature if combined with a Flame Spirit.

座敷童/座敷童子- "Zashiki-warashi" Earth Demon
The appearance of this spirit is that of a 5 or 6 year child with bobbed hair and a red face. Zashiki-warashi can be found in well-maintained and preferably large old houses. It is said that once a zashiki-warashi inhabits a house, it brings the residence great fortune; on the other hand, should a zashiki-warashi depart, the domain soon falls into a steep decline. Zashiki-warashi's 'skin' is gooey and gel-like. It would require a demonic blade to slice a Zashiki-warashi down, or maybe the sharpest normal blade you have in your disposal.

呪われたサムライ- "Cursed Samurai" Earth Demon
Honorable Samurai who have past, were given second chances to relive their bushido code, and fight to protect Nihon. These samurai have became more powerful and more skilled, as they were given the chance to live their lives once more. Samurai dwellers like these, are commonly found guarding the Castle interior.

蘇我入鹿-"Soga no Iruka" Elite Demon
Soga no Iruka was a statesmen during the Asuka Period. He is the grandson of Soga no Umako, and son of Soga no Emishi. As time progressed, the emperor was mysteriously assassinated. Soga no Iruka was forced to forbid his ministry power, and become a samurai and protect the rest of Nihon's powerful leaders. Unfortunately, he failed to protect even one noble. He was possessed by a wind spirit, he has the power of summoning the last of his comrades and the hope to protect the Demons from the Foreign humans reaching the Castle. Soga no Iruka guards the ground route and Castle Gates with the Zashiki-warashi spirits.

蘇我馬子-"Soga no Umako" Elite Demon
Soga no Umako was the son of Soga no Iname and a member of the powerful Soga clan of Japan.
Umako conducted political reforms with Prince Shotoku during the rules of Emperor Bidatsu and Empress Suiko and established the Soga clan's stronghold in the government by having his daughter married with members of the royal family. Failed to protect the emperor of Nihon from the demonic forces, Soga no Umako was possessed by a powerful elemental spirit. Preventing any human trespassers that should reach the Castle. Soga no Umako guards the underground route with the Curse Bandits.

天国ゴースト-"Heaven Ghost" Godly Demon
Sent from the Heaven's Gate, this demon descends downward to any trespassers that would interfere with chosen and prophecies that should happen. This demon has infinite amount of power, but as it endures the most painful, it loses it's godly power, almost turning into a mortal. This demon calls out Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess to open the gate, so it can revive and become a spirit of the god's power, once more.

信心深い影-"Shadow God" Godly Demon
Awakening from a small pyramid toy, this skilled swordsmen has the ability to pierce within minds, and summon any fear or nightmare they have faced. He has made a pact with the demon Kuzeryu, using his power in the form of a blade, he is unstoppable and can destroy anything in his path.

魔界 Demon World: Ancient Japan: Monster Database Volume: 1 3958
Volume 1: Heaven's Journey
The ancient scroll of the first volume has been replaced by a different scroll, enchanted with a golden glow of the heavens.
=====悪魔Demons悪魔=====
The Journey to Heaven
Forest Of Darkness
シャドウ鬼-"Shadow Oni"
Oni that trespassed into the world of Heaven, were punished to become a shadow of their former selves, they cannot die, and they cannot move freely from their shadow will. They are cursed to live in the Forest of Darkness, for all eternity.
Accursed Mountains
天狗-"Tengu"
Tengu (天狗?, "heavenly dogs") are a class of supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore, art, theater, and literature. They are one of the best known yōkai (monster-spirits) and are sometimes worshipped as Shinto kami (revered spirits or gods). Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon (Tiangou), the tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey, and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics. They appear in the children's story 'Banner in the sky' when the main character trips over one and falls off the face of the mountain. The earliest tengu were pictured with beaks, but this feature has often been humanized as an unnaturally long nose, which today is practically the tengu's defining characteristic in the popular imagination.
煙々羅-"Enenra"
An enenra (煙々羅 en'enra?, lit. "lightweight-fabric smoke") is a yōkai, or Japanese monster, that is composed of smoke. It resides in bonfires and, when it emerges, it takes the form of a human. It is said that an enenra can only be seen by the pure of heart.
ダイダラボッチ-"Daidarabotchi"
Daidarabotchi (ダイダラボッチ giant) was a gigantic yokai in Japanese mythology. His size was so great that his footprints were said to have created innumerable lakes and ponds. In one legend, Daidarabotchi wanted to see which was heavier; Mount Fuji or Mount Tsukuba. So he weighed them on a great scale. However, when he was finished he dropped the latter, splitting its peak. The "Night Walker" form of the Forest Spirit from Princess Mononoke is based off of the Daidarabotchi.
雷鬼-"Lightning Ogre"
Oni that were magically enchanted by the God Yomi himself, were given powers of electricity. Trying to forge new monsters that have similar powers of his Godly siblings. This creation carries similar traits of Raijin.
水スピリット-"Water Spirit"
Spirits of Water, formed and summoned by the Storm God Susanoo. These spirits are made of purely water, they can only be killed by a demonic blade. They are the guards and protectors of Susanoo.
須佐之男-"Susanoo" "Storm God"
The Shinto god of the sea and storms. Destined and supposed to kill the Eight-headed and Eight-tailed Sea serpent, Yamata no Orochi. Susanoo wields a spear crafted by the legendary swordsmith Muramasa. He waits everyday for the Sea Serpent to come and invade the waters of Heaven, waiting to kill the sea beast and retrieve the Three Imperial Regelia of Nihon.
風神-"Fujin""Wind God"
Fūjin (風神?) is the Japanese god of the wind and one of the eldest Shinto gods. He is said to have been present at the creation of the world and when he first let the winds out of his bag, they cleared the morning mists and filled the Gate between heaven and earth so the sun shone.
雷神-"Raijin""Thunder God"
Raijin (雷神 raijin?) is a god of thunder[1] and lightning in Japanese mythology. His name is derived from the Japanese words rai (雷, meaning thunder) and shin (神, god). He is typically depicted as a demon beating drums to create thunder, usually with the symbol tomoe drawn on the drums.
ドラゴン-"Ryu" "Dragon"
A legendary green dragon tamed and controlled by the Heavenly gods. The dragon helps the gods and heroes as a guide in their journey.
大天狗-"Daitengu" "Great Tengu"

There are only seventeen leaders of the Tengu, each living on a seperate mountain of Nihon. They have been recently summoned by the power of Yomi, to destroy the heavens along with their endless army of Tengu comrades. Personally, the Daitengu are neutral allies to the gods. But the power of the underworld was so great, they were forced to sacrifice their lives to kill the foreigners, and the gods.
八岐の大蛇-Yamata no Orochi
Yamata no Orochi (八岐の大蛇?, lit. "8-branched giant snake") or Orochi, translated as the Eight-Forked Serpent in English, is a legendary 8-headed and 8-tailed Japanese dragon that was supposed to be slain by the Shinto storm-god Susanoo.
