| I have to put a precision to this thread: In total there will be two, maybe three, threads about this particular RP. Since it was made for the May RP contest, I've finally decided to devote myself to actually doing something.
Here, you discuss out-of-character speech. That means that I don't want to see any "bubbles" in the actual RP thread. Please understand that I want all comments, questions, concerns, and precisions to be put here.
I also assumed that I did not need to first do an interest check in the Outline Workshop.
---
A/N: This roleplay idea came to me when I was writing the very short story, “Deals with the demon hunter” and now I’ve had the chance to show it with May’s roleplay contest. I don’t expect much of it, but since I made this with the idea of a strict and very experimental piece in mind I’d ask you to follow my directions very carefully.
With that come two orders that, by agreeing to play the game, you have to abide to.
One, if you’re dead, you’re dead. No revenants or situations where the character survives unless I specified so. I’ll do the same with my characters and kill them within their set boundaries of life and death if it’s required.
Two, you have the right to control NPCs and my characters, and I’m letting you control over two characters including your own. Unless specified in the character sheets that said character is not to be controlled, you can assume reactions and let them do things such as give brief replies, etc.
I guess… those are my custom rules. Let’s get to the setting.
---
It was in modern Paris, where English is nonetheless mostly spoken by the common people, that demons adored to devastate the neighborhood of the 10th Arrondissement, the least desirable area of the whole city. It was still a very cruel coincidence that most demon hunters lived in the area.
In this demoniacally devastated world, there are three main demon-hunting factions, and then there are demons, mysterious creatures that vary greatly and cause mostly malicious damage on the population and that all three parties are predetermined to exterminate. These parties are in no way on amicable terms and always fight between each other.
First off, there are the devils, who hunt the demons with a determined passion and who constitute about 15% of the demon-hunting community. Their abilities range from effectively convincing people from the general populace to aid their cause and using brute force to attain their own preferred alternatives. They’re rarely working alone, but are most often the only masterminds of any major plan. Devils are always Antichrists (in that they pretend to be good, but are revealed to be impostors), anti-theists or Satanists.
Then 55% is the Religious community. Ranging from Christians to Buddhists, from Jews to Muslims, the selected people, the strongest and most devoted, hunt demons and devils with a passion rarely witnessed. Recently, a Christian monastery was invaded by devils, and nearly two hundred demon hunters had perished. The surviving hunters would be named ‘Zealous’ in that they never gave in to despair, or at least didn’t seem to, and continued to hunt on their own. Most of Paris’ demon-hunters are in fact Christians.
Thirty percent could be considered outcasts. They have neutral alignments and hunt demons for money and personal satisfaction. They work alone or in small groups that get together for one time or several times and then disband forever. Their talents and extreme intelligence have led to their repugnance from every group and themselves, but most of these select individuals make offside deals with the two parties.
Two years earlier, several questionable and ill-bearing demons took domicile at random across the world. The demon-hunters refer to them as ‘super-demons’, in that their minions can infest a city in a matter of hours. Previously, these ‘super-demons’ existed, but in greater number and much less power. It began worrying, though, when three of them chose to nest in Paris. It was quickly noticed by a series of unexplained deaths, and so demon hunters chose to live in a place where they can easily find work to do.
At first it was quite strange to see so many volunteers pop out of nowhere. Six devils emerged out of the United States with great power and with no previous sign of their existence. Three of them moved to Paris to find out the cause of the unrest, and quickly began assembling freelance demon hunters to end the threat. In a matter of weeks, a feat rarely achieved by a haphazardly assembled party, the demons were exterminated from Paris, and demons dared not return until all three devils moved away from Paris.
In fact, there was one peculiar thing about those six devils. Their names were always palindromes. It may have been a coincidence, but they showed no hesitation to use their powers at ridiculous degrees, and it greatly destabilized the Christian demon-hunting community. So to be spited, these devils were not called devils at all, and instead were referred to as ‘Equivoques’ by everybody in their surroundings.
Two of the six devils were killed. One had a heart attack in his high-class home on the 7th Arrondissement at the age of sixty-three, a year after the super-demon extermination, while the other, a working-class woman, was shot aboard by, what would be assumed, a rebellious devil who was never tracked down, either out of sloth or spite for the forty-seven year-old Sinaga Nis, who did not have a perfect palindrome but nonetheless was one of the two Equivoque females, deceased exactly two weeks after they had finished their business.
The Christian community had not stayed silent. They had helped in their own way and had destroyed most super-demons around the world. But with all the devils gathered at Paris they considered it wiser than to stay in their presence. That year was met with several churches closing, and many demon-hunting Christians apparently taking a three-month vacation someplace else.
At least that was the story said in textbooks, written in archives and briefly explained to outsider demon-hunters seeking fame and fortune in once again demon-infested Paris.
And so it ended up that four out of six Equivoques were alive, and only one of them had survived the two years. Apparently there was something amiss, because devils rarely died in numerous numbers, and their deaths were usually carefully planned by their subordinates.
That was not the case that was being discussed by the fairly young Brian Johansson, who had apparently chosen a pseudonym to keep his real name hidden. He found out with smug satisfaction that if nobody knew his name they couldn’t use most automatic spells and use numerous contraptions on him. He suddenly called the three other Equivoques to Paris for the 28th October.
It was the 27th, and it was nearing midnight.
On their side, a few oblates and freelancers had also been called for midnight October 27th, apparently having been promised an urgent demon-hunting job, and two million francs to each individual if they had abided. They had received a letter in their mailbox, and at the same time had a message explicitly written down near an object of value. The message said: “The super-demons are at work.” It was signed “H.H.” and gave a date, meeting place, and possible reward.
And so people with no relation to each other or with only brief knowledge of their circumstances (for some of them were quite famous), for some reason, were called to battle again.

| Alright. I read your character sheet, Bestie. In advance I'll have to apologize for making such a big wall of text. I also have at least two more character sheets to write. Presumably the story needs pampering.
If anybody has the intention of joining, and I'm saying this in the most non-threatening way possible, could you please tell me in this topic? Lulz. | |

| xD That's no problem at all. I thought it was all sorted out in my head, but I might have missed out on writing some important parts. Could you tell me what you didn't understand? I'll try to elaborate. | |

| They just are. (<- Most truthful answer I could come up with.)
Actually... Demons can only live in condition that they come in contact with humans, and feed off humans, and then kill them. Finding a densely populated place isn't hard, but the fact is, demons are also attracted to dirty places, and have a very sporadic thinking process. Meaning that they are in Paris because they want to be in Paris. | |

| Demon-hunters who were assembled in a currently unrevealed location in Paris by a dark-horse Equivoque. I might not have explained this correctly, since I strictly type in a detached way when I'm writing. | |

| Yes, this Brian is behind the organization. There are three Equivoques who weren't present two years ago, but otherwise there are a lot of devils who are not Equivoques. | |

| Ah ok. So these three "Equivoques" weren't part of that big demon-hunting thing that happened two years ago. And the other three are dead? Or is that Brian guy one of them? | |
