Life in the Pits

Eight stared at the ball for a moment longer. She sighed and got up from the chair, feeling weak and heavy. She wiped her sweaty palms off her pants and made her way shakily to the Rec room.

She sat down at the table with the others, when they were playing Blackjack. Eight stole a glance elsewhere, around the Rec room, but found that Four was missing. Either she was the last to come and Four had been... eliminated, or...

Eight held her breath and looked down at the group. "Can I play as well?"

9 yawns, bored of the game he didn't know how to play

6 looked up at 8 and attempted a smile.

"Sure," he replied. He gestured to a chair with his hands, but then stopped and put them back under the table, saddened by the sight.

"Huh? No, I didn't say 'gun', I said 'shot', he had a little thing and it made a smaller thing strike my shield pretty hard..."

9 said casually but acting a little confused

...yes...a gun...if that man was so quick to shoot me, then this cannot be a good place. We must leave here at once, wherever here is...

Four says "wait" reaching for him, wanting to ask him. "Who are they? are you they?" she says hopping to get some answer

Eight tried to get comfortable in her chair. She was still undeniably sore. "Did... anything unusual happen today?" she asked with a calm, level voice as she stared at the cards.

...7 is a problem...he is acting careless...he may get ME in trouble...what am I to do...

"What is 'gun'? Did the voice tell you that?"

6 stayed quiet as he tapped his foot. He didn't want to say too much; he would rather talk with 9 alone and figure things out. He didn't think there would be a chance of that happening anytime soon though.

"Lots of strange things have been happening 8," 6 said quietly.

9 shrugs and goes back to the cards

...the fool...

Eight froze in place, and it took her a while to regain her laid-back composure. "That's all I needed to know. Hit me."

Four smiles, and goes to the rec room holding her shadow arm, which is slowly disappearing.

*Ten stays quiet, sitting in the back. The ice had melted, leaving a puddle under the table.

Eight smiled softly--something rather uncharacteristic, as she was usually the stoic, preoccupied kind. But that was all she did. Afterwards she headed straight for bed.

*10 walked to his room.
So tired from the day, he just passed out on the bed.

6 sighed and said to 9, "We'll talk tomorrow," before bidding everyone good night. He then walked into his room, too tired to do much but lie in his bed. His mind was buzzing with questions and thoughts, but he couldn't focus on that now. A good night's sleep was the most important thing right now. After a few moments he closed his eyes and fell into a deep slumber.

3 got up and calmly headed to his room, performing the usual routine before laying in bed.

9 shrugged again and went into his room, taking another shower and going to bed

...if I die in my sleep...heh...no...these people, trapping me here...I'll kill them with no mercy...
