let me explain
while there is the original mythos of Saint Nickolas and several variations, but the one that was popularized in the United States was started to promote good will, charity, good behavior, and the spirit of giving unto others. in this way, kids would grow up with a good outlook on life, good will towards their fellow humans, the will be be charitable when possible, and be willing to give to others, and when the myth was dispelled they would take it in stride with the lessons learned, and pass on the wisdom when the time came

However, today Christmas, X-mas, however anyone wants to wish it, is used primarily to cater to an increasingly materialistic society, to drive up our need to consume. In this fashion, kids are disillusioned by the myth- rich kids satisfy (or increase) their greed, and poor kids who get nothing feel insulted and cheated.

I know this isn't going to change a damn thing, but that's how i feel on the subject. Like, you want to have a day dedicated to materialism, fine. i'm as materialistic as the next person. that said, i feel that in this fashion we have cheapened a perfectly good myth to the point of worthlessness. Put it on the shelf, save it for another time.

a really weird term i came up with years ago: eyebeat

it's basically meant to describe that feeling when you have a really bad headache/migraine, and you get this throbbing that just feels like it goes straight to your eyes. i'm pretty sure it's actually feedback from the optical lobe, but it could also be pulsations caused by strains to the ciliary body (responsible for controlling how much light enters your eyes), which i probably experience due to extended periods of staring at a computer screen

not sure if there is a proper term for this or not, but that is mine

this is from a really fucking weird naming tool i found for coming up with a dragon name; it basically goes:
last two letters of your first name
middle two letters of your last name
first two letters of your mother's name
last letter of your father's name

and i've noticed a pretty common trend: the name you get is either a really good fantasy name, or it is fucking im-pronouncable (like mine)

aaand now i need to figure out something special to do for the 666th MMM post...

oookay, i actually have enough things to make this one memorable

sooo, first and foremost, for the past couple of months, i've been watching a series by a guy called TheDemodcracy who spent that time making videos ranking the quality of every boss in Souls Series (Demon Souls, Dark Souls 1,2, and 3, and Bloodborne). After he finished, i had the strange urge to write the list down for posterity's sake, so here it is:

Next, this is just a side thing, but I finally got enough currency on Overwatch to get Mercy's Imp skin (aka the best skin in the game), so it was a good day

thing is, while amusing, I actually loved the song itself, but i couldn't find what it was in anything on the video itself.
weeell, I was very stupid, as TS was kind enough to point out, and the name of the song was listed below. here is the official version:

and finally, this might belong in the Aether Pool, but since i think i mentioned her here already, it would make more sense for this note to be dropped here
a couple of months ago, i decided that I wanted to make an arachne, similar to rachnera arachne from MonMus, but a powerful mage. And for whatever reason, even though i am not a huge fan of Magic: the Gathering, i wanted to make her a planeswalker. problem was, i never really had a clear idea of what i wanted her to do/be. So, tonight, i finally went about looking through tvtropes to get the bare basics of what each color of magic is like (hey, if i'm using mtg's planeswalker as a basis, might as well work off their mana system). and i found something very interesting:

white, being the most lawful and strict among them, but also with some of the weakest magic, was right out. that said, the aggression, passion, and collection of flashy spells also put red out in the cold.
Obviously, for her analytic academics and heavy focus on magic, blue fit her very well.
So what is interesting about this?

while her magic is primarily a focus on blue, with some earth and other natural magics thrown in by way of green, her actual personality i find to be more a blend of blue and black
she isn't particularly concerned with the world as a whole, and is instead more interested in improving herself
at her best, she strikes me as a bit of a byronic hero
while dangerous if you actively annoy or endanger her, her Dark is not necessarily Evil
she is better than most, but she is of the kind to not quite understand that other people aren't of her same mindset
she could, after a fashion be considered greedy, as her efforts are primarily focused on her own empowerment
the moments she helps people could put her under the umbrella of Nominal Hero, as she is more likely to fight people out of annoyance, boredom, or mutual interest as she is to fight for revenge or reward
she is a firm believer in tabula rasa and the choice of the individual, and at her best moments encourages self-sufficiency
she does believe power comes at a price
while she does have her own rules and recognizes common courtesies and politeness, right and wrong don't necessarily mean anything to her
is a nominal believer in moral relativism (i think)

Started reading a web series called 'Worm'

I think I'm going to like it, considering the initial premise is one of my favorites: character has powers that would normally get her labeled as evil, but uses them towards making the world a better place specifically to spite other people
