Life in the Pits

...this life...something about it...the voice must be a person, but where are they? They are clearly not here...or are they?
9 cocks his head at 4 and crouches on the floor

"nothing just my eye hurts, i think i should stop rubbing it..." four says reflecting on her eye rubbing

Eight tilted her head and shuffled the cards. She believed she was excellent at poker, but didn't know in practice, since they never bet anything. It was all in the rulebook, she thought. It was nothing more than that. It was never more than that. "Poker, blackjack?" she asked the others.

" Yea deal me in" 10 replied, rather bored.

After having finished thoroughly shuffling, Eight asked Ten to split.

"What did you do to your eye?"
9 says softly and cocks his head again, balancing on the balls of his feet

*Ten splits the cards, giving them back to 8 to deal them.
" I haven't always been here have I?.... No I have...Wait..." 10 had a intense thought look on his face.

* 10 gets out of his chair, pushing it back in.
" Well I'm outta here...Besides I've never been good at poker. " 10 spoke, then thought about what he said at the end.
"Well, Goodnight..." He said as he walked to his room and fell into a thought induced sleep.

(Technically I haven't dealt them yet.)

Eight deals the cards. She gives everyone 5 cards--apparently she was insisting on playing "draw" poker instead of Texas Hold-Em's. She took a glance at her cards and put two in a newly formed pile. "You all know how to play like this, right?"

When Ten left, she sighed and shrugged. "Anybody else want to play?"

(Sorry I'm so late I was out doing errands with my family)
5 had been up a time before the alarm just sitting and thinking on the floor. Finally ready he walked into the Exam room and sat on the floor in front of the chair. to the voice he says "I feel like I'm never going to find what I'm looking for." 5 sighs after that and says. "I am 5, I am 6', 250lb, and White."

"I woke up with it bugging me.." four says having to think about it, "i'm hungry, but i should exercise a bit, shouldn't I?"

6 nodded.

"Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea. It might keep your mind busy," he said with a smile.

9 is still looking at 4's eye with curiousity

...and what if the voice is elesewhere? where would elsewhere be? ...perhaps there is a door we cannot see?

9 stands up, still looking at 4
"I'm sorry, love, I hope you get feeling better soon."

5 stood and entered the rec room and sat on the ground, closed his eyes, and started thinking about their little world.

"Average," Eight replied.

9 goes over to the weights and picks up a couple 10-lb weights and begins punching the air as fast as possible while jogging in place

...so...the voice must be elsewhere...but where? perhaps there is another room we cannot see...but why? ...why is this place like this? ...what do we call this place? ...is there another place? there has to be.

6 walks over to the table where everyone else is, curious as to what they were doing.

"What are you guys up to?" he asked. Then he looked at 8. "Oh, hello 8. I didn't see you come in." He then sat down at the table.

2 stopped exercising and panted on the floor.
